It lives on the high tropical mountain areas. There are thousands of different varieties of Paphiopedilum and some of them locate on the highland of Vietnam, specially Dalat. I got my Paphiopedilum there about half year ago when it was flowering. Since then, it had not flowered again and people who play orchid said that it is super hard to plant Paphiopedilum. I did not care much about mine and even did not put down fertilizer for it. But today, I saw it flowers again and this time, it has two flowers, not only one as it had before. What a strange thing to know about Paphiopedilum orchid that is this kind of orchid fits the cool weather but it still grows up normally in Hue, with super hot weather last summer as it was in Dalat. And now it has two big flowers. I can't believe that. I took some pictures on my plant to show you how beautiful its flowers are.

We were trying to find some flower to decorate our houses for Tet. But doing this simple duty is really hard, in fact. Flower this year are expensive and the price folds in 1.5 (comparing with the last year). We spent the whole afternoon walking around the flower-show and trying to choose the nice and appropriate flower for our houses and certainly... with the 'nice' price that we can pay. And at last, we have done our duty but not much flower; couple pots of chrysanthemum and a pot of forget-me-not for each of us. Temporary acceptable!

You know, the flower-show this year is not so nice as it was last year but it is okay and much nicer than the weather, of course. The sky is leaden, it is cold plus rainy a bit. These make everything looks untidy and humid. Regardless of that, the flower-show is still crowded and busy. People bargain and call 'xich lo' to take the pots of flower to their houses. Something looks dynamic in my mind and I think I have smelt Tet air this year no matter how bad the weather is.

Note: "Weather will be much better tomorrow. There will be some sunshine and no more rain." That is what I have heard from the weatherman, the person who is always 50% right and 50% wrong. Well, let see...

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-01-28T08:01:04Z</dcterms:modified>

What's wrong with Apricot blossom ???

Actually, Apricot blossom is one of the most important things on the Tet holiday in Vietnam, especially in Hue. People say that if you have not had any apricot blossom in your house, that means you have not prepared for Tet. It is compared as the symbol of the spring here and it has the similar important role like the Christmas tree on the Christmas holiday.

At the moment of the previous years, if you go around the city, specially to the flower-show, you can see the yellow everywhere, that is the color of apricot blossom (look the nice picture with a lot of yellow flower). But this year, the year of 2006, you must be lucky to meet a yellow apricot blossom. People say that because it is too cold this year so they could not flower. And that's true. It was not this cold at this time of the previous year in Hue. The apricot trees look like the sections of the tree trunk even in the Tet season, the season of apricot blossom (take a look on the picture of the apricot tree of my house; certainly the tree with no flower).

What is the reason? I am thinking of what I am studying; my speciality that is environmental science. And I remember one of the topics I studied is 'Climate change'. Is there any relationship between 'Climate change' and the problem with apricot blossom? Did 'Climate change' cause the apricot blossom could not flower this year? If the answear is "Yes", it would be too bad and too sad for the traditional Tet holiday in Vietnam.
